01 · Overview

Kaloleni Hospital (Hospitali ya Kaloleni, formerly Kaloleni Health Centre) is a public district-level hospital owned by the Government of Tanzania under the Arusha City Council, in Kaloleni ward, Arusha city. It has served the community since 1961 and has been upgraded from a health centre to a hospital.

Maternity is its busiest service. With 20+ deliveries a day and comprehensive emergency obstetric care (CEmOC), obstetric emergencies, pre-eclampsia and Caesarean sections are managed on site, alongside antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, and cervical and breast cancer screening, making it one of the strongest midwifery elective placements in Arusha.

With 300+ outpatients a day it also offers wide general exposure: a 24-hour emergency department; specialist clinics in internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics, ENT (with an in-house ENT surgeon) and ophthalmology; mental health and counselling services; major and minor theatres; inpatient wards; HIV care and treatment, TB and malaria; non-communicable diseases (diabetes, hypertension, asthma and COPD); dental services; ECG and echo; and radiology, with its own pharmacy and laboratory.
