01 · Overview

Endulen Hospital lies within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, in Ngorongoro district, northern Tanzania, about 286 km from Arusha. It is owned by the Catholic Archdiocese of Arusha and run together with the Government of Tanzania through Ngorongoro District Council.

Most patients come from Maasai communities. The hospital sees around 60 outpatients a day and has 100 beds, a 24-hour emergency department, major and minor theatres, a maternity ward with NICU/CPAP support, a TB/HIV care and treatment clinic, X-ray, ultrasound and a laboratory. It runs 18+ outreach clinics a month, mainly reproductive and child health.

For an elective, internship or volunteering placement, this is rural and remote medicine: broad clinical exposure with limited resources, and community outreach that a city hospital cannot offer.
